Aladdin Broadway: The Show's Journey

Aladdin, adapted from the Disney film and age-old folktales such as “One Thousand and One Nights,” is relaunched to new theatrical life in a daring musical. Aladdin's journey takes audiences into an exotic world of adventure, comedy and romance. This new production arrives full of awards, including the five songs from the Oscar-winning soundtrack and others written especially for the stage.

The animated film Aladdin was released by Disney in 1992 and was a critical and box office success, earning over $500 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film of the year.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for the hit song "A Whole New World", which won the second of the film's two Academy Awards for Best Original Music. The recording of the song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart of the year.

The musical Aladdin was produced by seven-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley, six-time Tony Award winner Natasha Katz and two-time Tony Award-winning costume design champion Tony Gregg Barnes.

The plot: Is the story of the film the same as the musical?

In the Middle Eastern city of Agrabah, Princess Jasmine is feeling suffocated by her father's desire to find her a royal groom. Meanwhile, the Sultan's right-hand man, Jafar, plans to conquer the throne.

When Jasmine leaves the palace, she discovers an instant connection with Aladdin, a charming homeless man. After they are discovered together, Aladdin is sentenced to death, but Jafar saves him by ordering him to obtain a lamp from the Cave of Wonders.

Where there is a magic lamp, there is a Genie. Once Aladdin unwittingly makes his wishes, anything can happen! Will Aladdin's new identity as "Prince Ali" help him win Jasmine's heart and thwart Jafar's evil plans? Will Genie's wish for freedom come true?
