I could say golden keys and include in this set my magnetic card from the Marina Bay View suite at the Mandarin Oriental, where I stayed. I will tell you more in this post and you who are planning to travel there will have no more doubts about where to stay.

Located in Marina Bay, close to virtually all tourist and cultural attractions, from shopping malls to museums, the award-winning Mandarin Oriental has excellent facilities, friendly staff and 527 spacious and comfortable rooms recently renovated divided into several floors of a building opened in 1987 with a fan shape - an allusion to the logo of the Mandarin Oriental group, one of the most renowned luxury hospitality conglomerates in the world, active in over 19 countries.

Let's break it down for easier reading:

Check in

Comme d'habitude arrived a few minutes before the scheduled time to see the reaction of the staff and what the check-in process would be like. The sumptuous lobby impressed me at first sight. I was surprised by the quick service and in a few minutes I was in my room checking in there. This is a difference worthy of a five star hotel. The experience needs to be exceptional before, during and after the stay. And if the during starts at check in… it needs to be special.

Welcome Gift – Exclusive tea from Mandarin Oriental's partnership with TWG

Sometimes you can spend a lot of time standing at a counter with other guests asking questions, phone ringing, people walking in and out etc and such. – Since this is the crucial moment for client-hotel contact and you are often tired, nothing better than doing it discreetly, comfortably and personalized in the room. Check-in room service. Points for Mandarin Oriental Singapore which also left fruit, a board of delicious sweets and tea at my disposal as a welcome pack accompanied by a handwritten card and a message on TV. Classic and modern customer service touch.

Room with the wonderful view of Singapore

I stayed in a comfortable room with a view of the Marina Bay. WOW!! The view from my room was everything I imagined. Too much!

Of course, the view is not everything. The decor is harmonious and elegant with touches of neutral colors and references to oriental culture. The bed is extremely comfortable and the space has an automated light and sound system, yet simple to use. The bathroom is bright, spacious and has a separate shower and bathtub (I love being able to use both options) and exclusive refreshing and fragrant amenities.

Safe, ironing board, work table with USB ports and different outlets, powerful internet (enough for everything, including downloads and use of insta stories – who watched me?) TV and mini bar available.

The pool and deck facilities

I spent most of my days on the fifth floor, where the hotel's pool and deck area is located, which has a restaurant, bar, cabanas and gym. The swimming pool is one of the hotel's highlights. There is no dispute over space for selfies, nor a battalion of people who book a night just to take poolside photos. It's not luxury hype immersed in the mainstream consciousness, it's luxury in essence, detail and overall context.

relax by the pool

The outside area is a stylist-tropical-city space with that not-so-basic view of the Marina Bay and the city's Ferris wheel. The pool itself is 25 meters long and is formed by a multicolored mosaic. I loved the sun loungers that are in the water and rotate 360 degrees allowing us to find the sun in the best possible position. The private cabins are wonderful and equipped with power outlets, iPhone ports and music players. I worked, had lunch, read and slept there. All the best.

The staff and service at the pool are also worth mentioning in this post. During the day, the hotel staff passes by serving small non-alcoholic cocktails as refreshments and they offer us international magazines and newspapers and even sunscreen for the body, face and also special for children. Great, right?!

Staff with exclusive service

In this area is also the Italian restaurante Dolce Vita with indoor and outdoor tables and lounge BAY @ 5, perfect place to have drinks and watch the light show that takes place every night in Marina Bay. Check with the hotel concierge for times (they are usually twice a day) and choose a table in advance. ?

Behind the Dolce Vita is a gym with a good selection of cardio and weight machines and a room dedicated to special activities such as tissue and yoga. Despite not having used the space, I was surprised by the structure and availability of personal trainers to accompany and/or create a series of exercises.

Breakfast

I was impressed with the amount of culinary options at the hotel. From room service, to breakfast, through the most casual and sophisticated bars and restaurants.

Breakfast takes place at Melt Cafe. The amount of options is surprising. The service is buffet style with several stations for different types of food. It's a feast that can be seen as a hearty lunch.

Melt Café (outdoor area)

Continental breakfast classics, typical of the French menu such as pain au chocolate, croissant, as well as Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malay, Indian and so on. Multicultural like us and like the hotel's customers. I enjoyed the omelet, waffle and pancake stations and loved the ice cream counter. # eating

Breakfast with freshly made pancakes and lots of variety, delicious!

Delicious breakfast!

As the hotel is large and is always busy, the restaurants are very busy. My tip for breakfast is to ask for a table on the outside patio. Most people prefer to stay in the air conditioning (it is very hot in Singapore), but starting the day in the middle of nature was very pleasant, as well as more peaceful and quiet.

Morton's The Steakhouse and restaurants

The well-known steakhouse Morton’s is headquartered in Chicago and is present in several US cities, from one end to the other, from NY to California. The chain's first restaurant outside the US was Mandarin Oriental Singapore. In addition to delicious steaks and meat sandwiches, the highlight of Morton's is the Martinis happy hour. It's a success and a meeting point for guests, locals and tourists who are in other parts of the city.. I wasn't satisfied with just an Apple Martini… Too good. Tim Tim!

The hotel also has other gastronomic options such as Axis Bar and Lounge, where English-style afternoon tea with live piano is served, the Cherry Garden, sophisticated Chinese food restaurant, in addition to the ones I mentioned before. I didn't try the Cherry Garden, as it was at full capacity every night, but I've already included it on my to do list next time in Singapore. In other words: book dinner in advance, ideally at the time of booking. #MOfoodies

the art of the east

The hotel is a hotbed of artists and various works of art are scattered throughout the common and private areas. It is a very interesting curatorship project consisting of paintings, murals, vases, sculptures, etc. What a rich way to get to know and dialogue with local and Asian culture. A work that caught my attention was River Runs Through it 2 by artist Jason Lim. It is an installation of ceramic pieces that represents, among many things, a river path. The static material contrasts with the fluid – a characteristic state of water that symbolizes life. The work proposes a game of shadows with 2D and 3D effects. Depending on your point of view and imagination you see many other things. The shadow on the wall draws attention, which recalls the landscape of buildings of different sizes in the country. Incredible.

River Runs Through it 2 do artista Jason Lim

The artistic project as a whole is very cool. I missed a catalog or some kind of interaction with the stories of the works and artists available to all guests. I thought of a game or something like an app to present and bring the collection closer to the visitors.

As the hotel is very well located, in front of Marina Bay and Esplanada dos Teatros, walk a lot, but the subway lines work incredibly well and take us to all corners of the city. I also used taxi service and Uber.
