Meliá Coral Beach Club in Umag – Our review

If you are planning to go to Croatia, Istria is a region that needs to be on your itinerary. Find out why and where to stay in Umag.

During my stay in Istria, I stayed in two different cities to facilitate transit through the region. This was my second stay and a great choice, by the way.

stay in Umag is a great choice to explore the green region of Istria, where the famous truffle-filled forests are located. As Istria is a small peninsula, you don't need to be far from the sea even if the idea is to visit the mountains, and Umag it is the perfect blend of the two sides of this Mediterranean paradise.

The hotel

If you seek where to stay in Umag, here's a tip: The Meliá Coral Beach Club is one of those hotels that you don't feel like leaving it, so you need to focus on the wonders outside the hotel's door and try to find some time to enjoy what it has to offer as well.

The environment was built especially for couples or families traveling without children and the minimum age for accommodation is 16 years old. The hotel is very spacious with several spa, fitness and leisure areas, including two outdoor pools and an indoor thermal pool.

A negative point that I noticed is that the hotel does not have an elevator, making accessibility very difficult for wheelchair users or elderly people with limited mobility. However, the staff seem to be quite willing to help with any special needs.

Reception

Service

The service is very good and formal, compatible with the quality of the hotel. The vast majority of the staff speak English and are willing to help with whatever you need.

Like almost all luxury hotels in the region, the Meliá Coral Beach Club offers free rental of a BMW so that the guest can have the experience of walking in the region with an extra touch of glamour. For rent, just have a valid driver's license and fill up the car on return. Depending of course, on the availability of the car as a car is available to serve all guests.

The hotel offers paid laundry service, 24-hour reception, restaurant and bar. O restaurant is exceptional, with a special emphasis on the fresh seafood from the hotel's own beach – it's really worth booking a night of dinner in their space and, if you don't have dietary restrictions, I recommend letting the Chef surprise you.

Directions

Umag is not the main gateway to Istria, but it's not difficult to get to the city from other places. so knowing where to stay in Umag without forgetting the good location is something to consider.

The most common and most advisable means of transport for traveling by Istria it is by car and the hotel is very well located and easy to find.

The best places to visit in the region are not reachable by public transport, so I recommend that you make the trip with a rented vehicle or a guide service with transport included, which will definitely make your experience even better.

Breakfast

The breakfast is quite extensive, but nothing exceptional. What stands out are the healthy options, with a variety of fresh juices made to order with all kinds of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Location

O Hotel Meliá Coral Beach Club, as its name suggests, it faces a beautiful beach and is close to the vast majority of luxury hotels in the region. There is also a tennis and golf club close to the hotel, as well as a large green area.

To get around it is very important to have a car, as the region is full of hotels and resorts.

rooms

The standard room is very good, with a private balcony and very comfortable, all within a luxury standard. A part of the rooms has a view of the sea and the hotel's green area. I found the bathroom in the room quite problematic for those with limited mobility, so it's important to take this into account or ask if they offer another more suitable option.
